Insects of the Amazon Rainforest
There are many differents species of insects all over the world
and just under half of them haven't even been discovered by scientists yet.
Did you know that 90% of the animals in the Amazon Rainforest are insects? Insects in the Amazon eat lots of plants some insects even eat nectar and sap. Other insects eat things that are naturally rotting. Also insects in the Amazon even eat human scraps that they leave behind.
This is bad for the insects because if humans keep doing this, the insects in the rainforest will eventually die. Below are some examples of insects in the Amazon Rainforest:
Rhino Beetles
Rhino Beetles start their life, like most insects, as larva. These larva eat a lot of compost or rotting wood, which is usually found where they were born. Rhino beetle larva goes though 3 molts before changing into the familiar adult form. The Rhino Beetle is often called the world's strongest animal because it can carry 850 times its own weight. There are more then 300 different types of Rhino Beetle. Rhino Beetles not only live in the rainforest but also in various parts of north America. The best protection they have from predators is their large size.
